CTWC DAS 2025: The Arrival of New International Challengers

CTWC DAS is entering its fourth year, proving that the DAS playstyle is more alive than ever. CTWC DAS 2024 was a huge success — the first Tetris® tournament of this scale to feature a double-elimination bracket. Combined with a variety of fun side activities, it was an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. For 2025, we are sticking to this winning formula while adding exciting new surprises! On top of that, with the top 4 competitors from the Jonas Cup 2024 (Fractal, Blue Scuti, Pixelandy, and meme) joining the tournament, CTWC DAS 2025 will reach an entirely new level of competition.

We couldn’t be more excited, and we hope you are just as hyped as we are! CTWC DAS 2025 will be an event that no Tetris® player or fan should miss!

  • Registration: Please register online on the registration website if you want to take part in the tournament. You can also register spontaneously on site. Spectators do not have to register.
  • Participation fee: The participation fee for players is 50€. You can book your qualification slot and pay the participation fee online on the registration website or on site before the tournament. There is no participation fee for spectators.

Most important rules:

  • Playstyle: All players are required to only use the DAS playstyle.
  • Level starts: During qualifications, starts between levels 15 and 19 are allowed. During the matches, only level 18 starts are allowed.
  • Allowed controllers: Competitors can use the provided NES controller or bring their own controller. The controller can be any standard unmodified original NES controller, any standard unmodified original NES “dog bone” style controller, any standard unmodified “Goofy Foot” style controller, or any standard unmodified Hyperkin Cadet Controller.
  • Age: You must be at least 12 years old to participate or watch the tournament on-site.

  • Time slots: Qualification slots are 60 minutes per player. The time slots on thursday are: 10:00 - 11:00, 11:15 - 12:15, 12:30 - 13:30 and 13:45 - 14:45 local time. You can reserve a time slot online on the registration website or on-site.
  • Rules: Only starts between level 15 - 19 are allowed. Qualifying attempts will be on type A. Players are then seeded by their number of maxouts and kicker score (non-maxout score).

  • Bracket format: The format is a 64-player double-elimination flat bracket which means that everyone gets to play at least two matches.
    • Number of rounds: In total, 11 rounds will be played, the first 6 of which will be in a flat format. The remaining rounds will be in a traditional bracket format, followed by a 1v1 final with a potential bracket-reset. The corresponding lower-bracket (loser’s-bracket) will have 5 flat rounds and 7 traditional rounds.
    • Match length: All lower and upper flat round Matches are best of 3. The first player to win 2 games wins the match and proceeds to the next round. All other matches are best of 5. The first player to win 3 games wins the match and proceeds to the next round.
  • Allowed start levels: Only level 18 starts are allowed for the matches.

History of CTWC DAS

History of CTWC DAS

For almost 30 years, DAS was the predominant playstyle for NES Tetris®. DAS stands for Delayed Auto Shift and describes the behavior of most falling block puzzle games when the player holds down the left or right key: the game shifts the falling piece sideways, pauses, and then continues to shift it repeatedly as long as the key is held.

Classic Tetris legend Jonas Neubauer (†) won 7 World Championships by playing DAS. However, since 2019 more playstyles such as Hypertapping and Rolling have emerged, dominating the scene. This shift has left many DAS players feeling sidelined and longing for fair competition. As an answer to that situation, we host the Classic Tetris® World Championship (CTWC) DAS , an event that highlights the unique and exciting aspects of DAS playstyle.

CTWC DAS 2025 will be the most exciting edition yet!

Building on the huge success of CTWC DAS 2024, we're taking things to the next level with even more thrilling competition and exciting surprises. With the arrival of four of the world's best DAS players — Fractal, Blue Scuti, Pixelandy and meme, CTWC DAS 2025 is set to be the most intense and competitive edition yet, featuring some of the most electrifying matches the DAS community has ever witnessed!
